As the Eureka Springs Artists Studio Tour Headquarters, ESSA will host Leon Niehues, a 2005 Arkansas “Living Treasure”, who will demonstrate his unique style of basket weaving at 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, at the ESSA campus at 15751 Highway 62 West. Niehues is lauded for turning utilitarian baskets into abstract sculptural works of art.
ESSA’s fall workshops from October 2nd-4, will feature Leon, who will be wowing basket weaving aficionados with his innovative ideas. While using traditional splint-work techniques, Leon adds new construction methods and design techniques that change his oak baskets into contemporary pieces. (This class is full at this time.)
