Craig & Lorna Trigg Hirsch Studio Tour Stop...

One of my first stops on the Eureka Springs Artists' Studio Tour was at the Fire Om Earth Studio where master artists, Craig and Lorna, handcraft musical instruments. Craig was performing a demo, making a flute out of bamboo. In the picture above, he was drilling the holes that would enable him to play a full scale and below, he was tuning the flute. The flute sound was beautiful and I was amazed at how easily he jumped octaves. I don't think I could have done it with such ease.
I missed Lorna's drum making demo, but I did buy one of her ocean drums - "a double sided hoop drum containing pellets which create the sound of the ocean when gently manipulated in a circular motion." A wonderful meditation tool - even for people like me that find it near impossible to clear the mind.
The Eureka Springs Artist's Studio tour was so much fun. I saw artists working in all disciplines... fiber, 2D, metal and clay. And, to add 'icing on the cake', the weather was absolutely fabulous this past week-end. There's nothing like a perfect Fall day in the Ozarks.
