The art of sewing is alive and well at the Eureka Springs School of the Arts! This past week, fiber artist, Mary Tait, taught a sewing and design class for 12 - 17 year olds. The students each had access to a sewing machine (donated to ESSA two years ago) and they learned to design, pin, cut, and stitch a slipcover for a simple chair. Indigo (below) chose a striped fabric to compliment her back pleat...
And, Rachel went the extra mile and designed a slip cover for her piano bench!

At the student reception, I had several moms ask if they could take this class!!!

wow! Awesome projects and so professional looking too! Smiling faces show pride in their work!
I'd like to take a class like that one too!
I'm sew glad to see the next generation sewing! I'm teaching my 9 year old daughter. We're learning to design and sew American Girl Doll Clothes.
Oh- and my fabric dying worked out great! I got some good advice from a local gal. I have some new colors of Cushing's Perfection Dyes coming from Ebay. Can't wait to try them out!
Oh, I love hearing this! Now I can almost see some young ones start to quilt around the old frame! Imagine the chatting about boys that would be discussed.

Very impressive! I'd love to have the chair covers for my dining room set. Great job!
